A UV overlay is a security feature that can be added to your ID cards to reduce the risk of forgery. It is one of the key features of what an ID card should contain. A UV overlay provides a layer of invisible ink that is printed onto the cards, containing an image or text.
Gold miner image in the bottom right corner of the card. 2. California poppies appear on the bottom left of the card. 3. Under ultraviolet UV light, UV image of the cardholder photo, the UV image of birth date, and the UV image of the Golden Gate Bridge and Coit Tower appears.
Ultra-violet (UV) ink is a security feature that is created by covertly hiding images and/or text on the state ID by using a specialized form of printing. These images often cannot be seen unless theyre viewed under a UV light.
Answer: This security feature is similar to a hologram, but where the hologram will refract light to a eye, the UV ink will only react once it is placed under the UV light, adding an additional level of security that is difficult for ID creators to replicate properly.
Many states ID cards have patterns printed onto them in dyes/pigments that produce a specific color response to UV light. These details might not be accurately reproduced by someone making counterfeits.
Laser perforation Official IDs have tiny laser-perforated holes that arent visible to the naked eye unless theyre held to direct sunlight. Again, these laser-perforated images differ on a state-by-state basis, but they usually form a picture.
One of the most common security features on a U.S. ID is a hologram. These holograms are usually located on the front or back of the ID and can be in various shapes and sizes. To check if the hologram is authentic, tilt the ID back and forth. If the hologram moves, its likely authentic.
