A hex colour such as #FCFCFC consists of three pairs representing RGB. The second part of each pair can be reduced to darken any colour without altering the colour considerably. Reducing the first part of each pair by a small amount will also darken the colour, but you will start to affect the colour more (eg.
To get a darker color the simplest way to go about it is lowering the values of R, G and B by the same proportion (ie 10%).
A good way is to take the most dark hue of your color and mix this with its complementary. Example witch is often practiced: to darken orange, take umber + ultramarine (or cobalt) blue. With this mix you can get a color near black.
When you are lightening or darkening a paint color, you are removing (or adding) the same amount (i.e. 25%) from each color in the recipe. This changes the recipe, which in turn changes how the paint color will turn out.
You can make a color lighter by adding white. The more white that is added to the color the lighter it will become. What do you add to a color to create a shade of that color? To create a shade you add black.
By adding black to the color, the value is made darker, resulting in what is referred to as a shade. When white is added to a color, the result is a lighter value, which is referred to as a tint. commonly refer to as Burgundy (red + black) (Figure 2).

To generate a lighter or darker color using JavaScript, you can use the HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) color model. First, convert your color from RGB or HEX to HSL. Then, adjust the lightness value to make the color lighter or darker. Finally, convert the color back to RGB or HEX.
