Indeed, inspired by the French Revolution, the ministers for the new Italian republic all but copied the French flag for their own national flag in the late 19th century, merely changing the blue to green. It wasnt just Italy.
The standard was either suggested directly by the Marquis de Lafayette, or the design was submitted by Jean Louis David, the famous painter, inspired to use the Lafayette cockade with 3 bar starting in sequence Red,White and Blue. The fields were changed during Napoleons reign to Blue,White and Red.
I filled up a tall trash can with warm water and dumped a bunch of tea leaves in, I only had k-pod tea which was a bit messier than tea bags would have been, but it all worked out ok! I let the flag soak in the trash can for about 2-3 hours before pulling it out and I was left with some awesome old worn in color!
French news outlets revealed on Sunday that the blue third of the flag was made darker. The decision is a nod to a darker shade used during the French Revolution.
Simply hang the flag flat and gently apply steam to the wrinkled areas until they relax and flatten. Another alternative is to either hand or machine wash the flag in cold water, followed by hang drying. The washing process usually eliminates wrinkles, and by hanging it flat to dry, you prevent new ones from forming.
Important Things to Remember However, the flag may be displayed at all times if its illuminated during darkness.
Prior to the French Revolution, there was no national flag which represented France. From 1590-1790 the Fleur-de-Lis (flower of the lily) with a blue field was one of four that was used on warships and fortresses. The most important flag carried by explorers and settlers was most likely this royal flag.
On 13 July 2020, President Emmanuel Macron reverted, without any statement and with no orders for other institutions to use a specific version, to the darker hue for the presidential lyse Palace, as a symbol of the French Revolution.
