wow whatamp;#39;s up guys i wanted to give you a couple of tips and tricks that we use here to uh to get the best engraving or photos on on wood and typically weamp;#39;re using uh birch birch plywood but it tends to engrave kind of a light tan and to get the best results hereamp;#39;s what we do one using a an orbital sander will help you get all of the little fingers and stuff like that off the rough plywood just sand it down with a really really fine sandpaper and youamp;#39;re going to create a much smoother surface to engrave and get all the detail down second is a spray bottle with baking soda and water mix so we use about two tablespoons to uh thereamp;#39;s 28 fluid ounces that spray bottle so you donamp;#39;t need a whole heck of a lot um but it does make a huge difference and weamp;#39;ll bring you over to the machine and weamp;#39;ll show you iamp;#39;m actually just gonna spray this down real quick let it dry and weamp;#39;ll go from there all righ

When looking to achieve a dark black appearance, treating wood with solutions such as water and borax or baking soda before engraving can be helpful. Other makers find that using products designed to enhance appearance after engraving is ideal.
You should not stain a cutting board, instead you can use oils to bring out the natural color of various hardwood lumber species. Wood stains contain toxic dyes and pigments that would contaminate the food when used as a cutting board.
Antiquing: This paint-like process is very simple yet effective if you want to just touch up your engraving and make it a bit darker in order for it to stand out. The jeweler simply rubs the antiquing formula over the engraving, and lets it fill in the carving.
The best option would be to engrave the cutting board on the side that you wont want to use for food cutting and then make sure to seal it with food-grade epoxy.

Apply Darkening Agent: Once the engraving is complete, apply a darkening agent or ink to the engraved area. Brush or rub the agent into the engraved lines or markings, ensuring it fills all the grooves. Clean Excess Darkening Agent: Wipe off any excess darkening agent from the surface using a clean cloth or tissue.
You may be able to apply a darker stain or oil (food safe) that will absorb into the etched areas faster than the original surface finish thus turn it darker, or if you dont want that etched side to be used not worried about food safe, you may be able to even apply paint or wax or color filler and wipe it off the
