Antiquing: This paint-like process is very simple yet effective if you want to just touch up your engraving and make it a bit darker in order for it to stand out. The jeweler simply rubs the antiquing formula over the engraving, and lets it fill in the carving.

Use a Wood Filler: After engraving, apply a wood filler or a colored wax into the engraved areas. Choose a filler that is darker than the woods natural color. Once the filler is dry, sand off any excess to reveal a clean, darkened engraving.
Apply Darkening Agent: Once the engraving is complete, apply a darkening agent or ink to the engraved area. Brush or rub the agent into the engraved lines or markings, ensuring it fills all the grooves. Clean Excess Darkening Agent: Wipe off any excess darkening agent from the surface using a clean cloth or tissue.
My paint of choice is Rust-Oleum flat black (non-aerosol). This is available at hardware stores everywhere. There are other flat black paints available, and they probably work just as well. Be sure to use flat black and not satin black, as satin black produces small amount of shine which is undesirable.
