Matte fixatives or sprays can also reduce shine while preserving the pencils integrity. The answer to your problem is toilet paper!!! It really is a very effective way of achieving that smooth look! Do some practice marks with your pencil, then fold a piece of soft toilet paper and use it to lighly rub out some of the marks youve made! You could also use a commercial tortillion, AKA a stump.
Harder leads like youd find in a 6H pencil are harder because of the addition of clay. In other words, H pencils contain more clay and less graphite than B pencils. Since graphite gets shiny and clay doesnt, defaulting to harder leads is one way to limit burnishing in our graphite drawings.
Of the three pencils, the Matte pencil was the softest. The Matte pencil features a black body and since the graphite is the softest, the marks were the darkest. Blackwing Pencil Review The Smoothest Pencil The Virtual Instructor blog blackwing-pen The Virtual Instructor blog blackwing-pen
No, it isnt the graphite itself which shines, it is its polishing effects which causes it to shine like a silver-grey.
