will i get a reference in my settlement agreement well again it depends on the terms in the settlement agreement itamp;#39;s certainly a very common clause and if it wasnamp;#39;t there then i would certainly advise you to ask for it sometimes the settlement agreement just says that the employer will provide you with a reference but i would advise that you actually get a written reference attached as a schedule the point about references is that there is no contractual obligation on an employer to provide you with a reference but if he does provide you with one it has to be fair and accurate so if you include a clause stating that the employer has to provide a reference in the settlement agreement then it becomes a contractual obligation and the employer must provide the reference that is stated in the settlement agreement
