To convert a string into a Base64 character the following steps should be followed: Get the ASCII value of each character in the string. Compute the 8-bit binary equivalent of the ASCII values. Convert the 8-bit characters chunk into chunks of 6 bits by re-grouping the digits.
Compression of Base64 Arrange the bytes in order. Take each group of three bytes (24 bits) and divide into four sections of 6 bits. Map each 6-bit section to one of 64 characters, since 26=64. Each of the output characters will take up one byte, or 8 bits.
Base64 is a scheme for converting binary data to printable ASCII characters, namely the upper- and lower-case Roman alphabet characters (AZ, az), the numerals (09), and the + and / symbols, with the = symbol as a special suffix code. The datas original length must be a multiple of eight bits.
Since Base64 uses 24-bit sequences, padding is needed when the original binary cannot be divided into a 24-bit sequence. You have probably seen this type of padding before represented by printed equal signs (=).
Imagine we have data represented as a base64 string. This example demonstrates how to decode, compress, and re-encode to smaller base64 representing the compressed data. Note: This example requires Chilkat v9.
Then at some point you have to decode this pseudo-text back into an original data because base64 gibberish in itself is useless. Decoding performs similar binary operations but in reverse. The restored data is guaranteed to be exactly the same as before encoding.
The function, called resizeBase64Image , takes in a single parameter: the base64 encoded image. It returns a promise that resolves with the resized image in the form of a data URL. This function is a real snap to use and will make resizing images a breeze.
If you want it to be shorter then, dont use Base64. If you do need it to be an ASCII string, then compress the data (using gzip or any other compression scheme) and then encode the compressed file as Base64. That is as short as you will be able to get it.
