greetings all just wanted to show you a very quick video today just showing a couple of options for creating darker and lighter areas within docHub Camera Raw often we start any editing process with an image just by applying overall exposure adjustments but itamp;#39;s also good to know how to lighten and darken particular areas of an image so that youamp;#39;re applying those adjustments only the specific areas are rather then the entire image so we just have an image here that I photographed in Scotland and you can see the grass just at the top of the image there is quite frosty or was photographed obviously in winter and just at the bottom there we have you know some water flowing through at this particular stream over some rocks I was quite a lovely location to photograph so what I would like to do is with the top of the image you can see that the grass is a little bit bright a little bit brighter than what I want to make it and the bottom of the image I would like to make

Many professional photographers shoot in RAW because the format captures the highest level of detail. It can often be easier to edit exposure later with a RAW file. However, shooting in JPEG has its benefits, since their smaller file sizes allow you to shoot more images at once and transfer files faster.
A: RAW files are generally considered better for editing because they contain more data and allow for greater flexibility when making adjustments. JPEG files, on the other hand, have limited editing capabilities due to the compression and loss of data during processing.
Photoshop has dedicated Dodge and Burn tools, which you can use to zero in on anything that needs lightening or darkening. Try using them to brighten the eyes in a portrait or create a darker vignette at the edges of a photo.
Capturing and storing all the details that pass through your cameras sensors means RAW files contain a wider dynamic range and far greater color spectrum than JPEGs. If a RAW image is under or overexposed, the wider dynamic range makes recovery a lot easier, with greater control over sharpening.
To adjust the white balance quickly, select the White Balance tool and then click an area in the image that you want to be a neutral gray. The Temperature and Tint properties adjust to make the selected color exactly neutral (if possible).
This means that there are no additional post production settings being applied. So, what we are seeing is both files as shot directly by the camera. Notice how the zeroed RAW file is dark and lacks contrast compared to the zeroed JPEG.
But most of the time, when your photos come out too dark, your camera is either in one of the auto modes or in manual mode. When a camera is in one of the auto modes, it doesnt have all the information, like how to meter the scene. So, it has trouble in low-light situations.
RAW RAW files are unprocessed and un-compressed data files that contain all of the image information available to the camera sensor. Because RAW files are unprocessed, they come out looking flat and dark, as you can see above.
