[MUSIC PLAYING] So how do we use imagery in our own songs, really apply this to the writing process? One way to think about it is that the verse tells the story. It carries the detail, the small moment. And the chorus carries the big message. So the small moment illustrates why that big message is true. The small moment needs to come before the big message, or the big message doesnamp;#39;t carry the believability that it should. [PLAYING ORGAN] One way to approach using imagery is to understand that, in the verse, weamp;#39;re trying to answer some questions. We can think about a song in terms of where we use imagery. The verse section tends to use a lot of that showing detail. It carries the story. The chorus section summarizes the main message. So just knowing that can help us determine where to put the sensory language, where to put the imagery. In a verse-- letamp;#39;s say Iamp;#39;m writing a song about an old truck. The verse section might describe that truck in the sense o

For example, in the song Everybody by the Backstreet Boys, the first verse starts as Oh my God were back again/brother, sisters everybody sing. The second verse starts as, Now throw your hands up in the air/And wave em around like you just dont care. Both verses have the same melody but different lyrics.
The structure of a verse A verse can be anywhere between 4-8 lines of lyrics. However, depending on the genre of music this can be as long as 12-16. Most commonly verses come in groups of 4 lines. The length of the lyric lines can vary, but are usually in contrast to the chorus.
First, try the cut-up method: Take one small article from a newspaper or magazine. Cut out a selection of words. Mix the words in a bag or in your hand. Without looking, pull out words and lay them on a piece of card or paper in the order you take them out of the bag.
Cut-up is performed by taking a finished and fully linear text and cutting it in pieces with a few or single words on each piece. The resulting pieces are then rearranged into a new text, such as in poems by Tristan Tzara as described in his short text, TO MAKE A DADAIST POEM.
Parenthetical Citations: The first time you reference a version of the Bible, in the in-text citations, give the name of the edition (italicized), followed by a comma and the abbreviated book (see back of handout), chapter, and verse. Use a period, not a colon, between the chapter and verse: John 3.16.
In popular music, a verse roughly corresponds to a poetic stanza because it consists of rhyming lyrics most often with an AABB or ABAB rhyme scheme. When two or more sections of the song have almost identical music but different lyrics, each section is considered one verse.
Verse or A Section: A songs verse is generally a recurring section usually 16 or 32 bars in lengththat serves as the main body of the song. In music with lyrics, the verse often tells the story.
Songs which feature only a repeated verse are in simple verse form (versechorus form without the chorus). Examples include: Evil Ways by Santana (1969)
