Deleting unnecessary data from a document is called cutting. In Microsoft Word, you can cut text from one area of a document and paste that text anywhere in the document. After you cut the text, it gets stored in the clipboard.

The cut command in UNIX is a command for cutting out the sections from each line of files and writing the result to standard output. It can be used to cut parts of a line by byte position, character and field. Basically the cut command slices a line and extracts the text.
The -f is the field specifier and the -d is the delimiter. The command above says to first cut the line up using " as the delimiter, and return back the 2nd field( -f2 ). The second command cuts up that result using the : delimiter, and returns back the 1st field( -f1 ).
The Cut Button The "Cut" button copies the current highlighted text area (highlighted by clicking at the start of the text and dragging the cursor over the text to be highlighted) to the clipboard and removes it from the current highlighted location in the text area.
The Cut command is used to remove text or images from the screen you are currently working on. "CUT" moves the information to your virtual clipboard, where it is stored until it is overwritten by the next "cut" or "copy" command.
