I wanna talk today about something Ive talked about and written about quite frequently, but I really believe I cant say it enough. And that is how to protect a word, versus a logo in terms of a trademark, when it is presented, generally, a brand name appears as part of a logo. As you can see here for this Audio Technica microphone, it has a font, a color, and a design next to it. So one might think that filing that entire design would be the best way to protect this trademark. However, when you file for an exact design, youre really only protecting that exact design. So when the words are used apart from the design, for example, in text or in a domain name or in a social media username, or when the logo is used apart from the wording, for example, on the side of the packaging here, that trademark registration for the entire design, would not really provide the proper protection.
