The main difference between die cut stickers and kiss cut stickers is the backing. Kiss cut stickers are easy to peel with a larger surrounding border and backing, while die cut stickers are custom cut to the exact shape of your design.
This is a very common question we get asked. “Die Cut” means that the sticker is cut around the contour of your design. Unlike stickers in the standard shapes of a circle, square, or rectangle, die cut stickers will be completely customized to the shape of your artwork.
A Die Cut Sticker will be laser cut completely through the backing of the sticker, so all you see is the custom shape and sticker design. Kiss Cut Stickers are also digitally printed, and laser cut, just with a slightly lighter touch, which leaves a slightly visible backing.
When we have to choose from different types of custom shape stickers, we are faced with two options regarding the cut: the half cut or the full cut (also called Kiss Cut and Die Cut, respectively).
There are three main types of stickers: die-cut, kiss-cut, and regular stickers. Kiss-cut stickers are similar to die-cut stickers, but the blade only cuts through the top layer instead of cutting all the way through the material. This leaves the backing intact, making them easy to peel off and use.

A kiss cut sticker is an individually cut sticker that is cut through the material layer only, without cutting through the backing paper. Because the paper backing stays intact, kiss cut stickers have an extra border around the sticker that makes them easier to peel and faster to apply.
A kiss-cut sticker is essentially a sticker surrounded by removable backing material that's larger than the sticker itself. The term 'kiss cut' refers to the laser-cutting technique used to cut around the sticker while leaving the backing material intact, so that the two are effectively “kissing”.
