So the Dock is the strip of icons youll find at the bottom of your Macs screen. The Dock is divided up into three sections, divided by these lines that youll see here. The left most section contains apps. Its the easiest way to launch an app on your Mac. To launch an app just click its icon. So here Ive got the Reminders app. I click that and the Reminders app launches. Notice that when an app is running it has a dot underneath it in the Dock. You can customize the Dock to add the apps that you want. The easiest way to do that is in the Finder create a New Finder Window and go to your Applications folder. Then from there find the app that

Add Spacers in the macOS Dock Open Terminal. Open your favorite Terminal application. Choose spacer size. You can add a regular spacer or a small spacer. Copy and paste one of the scripts into your Terminal. Move the spacer(s). Drag and drop the spacer(s) to the desired location on your dock.
The Finder and Trash icons cannot be removed from the Dock on your Mac computer. These programs have been permanently embedded in the Dock by Mac developers.
An Alternate Way to Remove a Dock Item Place the cursor over the icon of the Dock item you wish to remove, and then either right-click or control-click the icon. A pop-up menu will appear. Select the Options Remove from Dock item from the pop-up Dock menu. The Dock item will be removed.
How to Insert Spaces into the macOS Dock Launch the Terminal app found in Applications/Utilities. At the Terminal prompt, type the following command and press Enter: defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add {tile-type=spacer-tile;}; killall Dock.
To restore your Dock to its original settings: Click the Apple logo in your Macs menu bar. Navigate to System Preferences Dock. Find the Automatically hide and show the Dock setting, and select it. Your Dock should once again become a permanent onscreen fixture.
Note: If you dont see the recent apps section in the Dock, choose Apple menu System Settings, click Desktop Dock in the sidebar, go to Dock on the right, then turn on Show recent applications in Dock on the right (you may need to scroll down).
Dividers can be added to the sidebar to arrange your groups and apps. Right-click on an empty space in the sidebar and select Add divider from the pop-up menu. A divider will appear at the bottom of the sidebar, which you can drag to the correct place.
With Finder active, look at the menu bar across the top of the screen. Click Go, then select Applications from the list. Your Applications folder will open in a Finder window. Locate the app that you want to put in the Dock, then click and drag its icon into the Dock.
