A file with the FDX or FDR file extension is a document used by the screenwriting software Final Draft to store scripts for TV episodes, movies, and plays. FDR is the file extension used in Final Draft versions 5, 6, and 7. Documents in newer versions of the software are saved as FDX files.
CUT TO: can be a useful transition when you need to be extra-clear were moving to a new place and/or time. However, with the presence of scene headers, it is by no means necessary, and in modern screenplays it is often not used at all. Ultimately, the use of CUT TO: is up to the writers personal preference.
MATCH CUT. This is used when the ending image of one scene matches the beginning of the next.
How can I change the way my script looks? Go to Format Elements Settings (Windows) or Format Elements (Mac); Choose Action from the list on the left; Click the Font tab; Click Set Font; Click Italics in the Font Style box (Windows) or Style Attributes box (Mac) and OK your way back to the script.
We use CUT TO: when we want to make a point of ending the scene where we did. For example, if you end a scene on a character telling his wife that hes sorry for cheating on her and it will never happen again, and the beginning of the next scene is him in bed with another woman, adding CUT TO: makes sense.
Final Draft Documents include scripts and text documents (. fdx extension), as well as templates (. fdxt extension). Although a Final Draft template can be opened using the File Open command, a new document will be created as though a template has been selected using the File New from Template command.
The only file type the FD Go and Mobile app can open is FDX, the format used by Final Draft. It does not open FDR (Final Draft 7 / 6 / 5), RTF, DOC, TXT, HTML or PDF files. The Go and Mobile app cannot open text files created in Final Draft.
In keeping with the one page = one minute rule, screenplays follow these industry standards for margins: The top and bottom of every page should have a 1-inch margin. The left margin should be 1 inches, so that there is room for the hole punch to go through when the script printed. The right margin should be 1 inch.
