If you need a landscape layout, you create an XML file with the same name as the portrait one, and place it in a folder called layout-land. If you need a layout for big screen then you would create a third activitymain XML file and place it in a folder called layout-large, or layout-large-land.
xml. Step 3 Create a layout file by right-clicking on the resources, name the file, from the Available qualifiers, select Orientation. Click option. Select Landscape from UI mode.
Screen orientation In Android Studio, open the XML file (such as activitymain. Click the Design tab at the bottom of the layout editor (if it is not already selected). Click the Orientation in Editor button. Choose an option such as Create Landscape Variation.
Step 1: Open the base UI layout in DESIGN mode so that you see the actual GUI, such as Buttons, icons, etc. Step 2: Click the icon marked in the below screenshot and, from the menu, select Create Landscape Variation. Then the corresponding Landscape file will be created automatically named as land\xml file name.
If you want to disable Landscape mode for your Android app (or a single activity) all you need to do is add: android:screenOrientation=portrait to the activity tag in AndroidManifest.
Swipe down from the top of your screen to enable Auto-Rotate, then turn your phone to the side to switch to landscape mode. Turn your phone upright to switch back to portrait mode.
When on the main screen, under the orientation section, you will see a number of options like Auto-rotate OFF, Auto-rotate ON, Forced Portrait and Forced Landscape. As the names suggest, you can use these buttons as one-tap shortcuts to toggle the orientation of your device.
Swipe down from the top of your screen to enable Auto-Rotate, then turn your phone to the side to switch to landscape mode. Turn your phone upright to switch back to portrait mode.
