The cut rule for regular PGA Tour events sees the top 70 advance to the weekend with the score of the 70th-placed player being the score needed to make the cut. Any player that is level with or above the 70th-placed player on the leaderboard makes the cut and plays the final two days of the tournament.
The top 60 players and ties will make the 36-hole cut at the U.S. Open, with no cut between the third and fourth rounds. Its a contrast from the seasons other majors the PGA Championship and The Open Championship each take 70 players and ties through 36 holes.
Following the first 36 holes of play, the field of 156 players will be reduced to the low 70 scores and ties. Those players will advance to complete the final two rounds.
That rule means anyone within 10 shots of the lead after two rounds, regardless of where they stand in the championship, makes the cut. Its just a flat top 70 finishers and ties. There is only a single cut at The Open Championship. There is no secondary cut after the third round.
The Post-June 1st designation is exactly that a designation. A team is allowed to release up to two players early in the offseason (almost always in early March, prior to the start of veteran free agency) but carry the players salary on the books until June 1st.
The post-June 1 cut is a device that allows teams to defray cap costs over multiple years. Generally, when releasing a player before his contract is up, a team must account for the remainder of his prorated signing bonus in a dead money cap charge.
The 156-player field at the PGA Championship will be cut to the top 70 and ties after the completion of 36 holes.
