A file with the . odt extension is an OpenOffice Document file. These documents are typically created using programs like Apache OpenOffice Writer and LibreOffice Writer, word processors comparable to Microsoft Word and Google Docs. ODT files are similar to file formats created using Word, such as DOCX and DOC.

Click in the document where you want the TOC to appear. Choose Insert Indexes and Tables Indexes and Tables. Click OK. The result will be a typical table of contents.
On the Review tab, select Track Changes. Select Accept or Reject. As you accept or reject changes, Word will move to the next change. Tip: To move through changes in the document without accepting or rejecting them, select Next or Previous.
Convert ODT to PDF. Open Acrobat and choose Tools Create PDF. Select the file type from which you want to create a PDF. Click Create or Next depending on the file type. Follow the prompts to convert to PDF and save to your desired location.
To insert a TOC: Place the cursor in the position where you want it to appear. Select the menu command: Insert Table of Contents and Index Table of Contents.
Save your document with the Save As option and save the text as a . docx document. You can select this option when you are indicating what type of text you are saving (below file name).
Creating a template Open a new or existing document of the type you want to make into a template (text document, spreadsheet, drawing, presentation). Add the content and styles that you want. From the main menu, choose File Templates Save. In the New template field, type a name for the new template.
Select Insert ▸ Table of Contents and Index ▸ Table of Contents, Index or Bibliography from the menu. In the Table of Contents, Index or Bibliography dialog, select the type Table of Contents. Now click OK. The table of contents with the formatted headings now appears where you placed the cursor.
How to convert a ODT to a DOC file? Choose the ODT file that you want to convert. Select DOC as the the format you want to convert your ODT file to. Click Convert to convert your ODT file.
