Can I Edit XPS Documents in Word? Similar to a PDF, an XPS file is a fixed-layout document that cannot be edited, which means it does not lend itself to being opened in a document editor like Word.
XPS is the MS equivalent of PDF. There is no way of editing XPS files. You have to keep the original DOCX / DOC format file, do your editing there and then save a new XPS file.

How to Edit an XPS File Right-click on the document. Select “Properties.” Click “Change” from the "General" tab. Choose a program that you want to open the document in.
