What to Include in a Letter of Recommendation Salutation of one line. One paragraph detailing how you know the person and why you are qualified. One paragraph explaining why you recommend the person and details on what theyve done or accomplished. One summary reinforcing that you highly recommend the person.
The letter of recommendation should give a picture of the candidates personal characteristics, performance and experience, strengths, capabilities, and professional promise from someone who has worked closely with the candidate.
In most circumstances, however, your letter should fill a page neatly and perhaps go on to a second page. When students apply for graduate school or a national scholarship, two-page letters are the norm, and very short letters leave candidates at a clear disadvantage.
When writing a self-recommendation letter, highlight your key skills and traits observed by your recommender. Whether theyre technical abilities or interpersonal strengths, make sure they match the job youre applying for.
Specific examples are important. While a list of qualities is helpful, detailed examples that support and illustrate these qualities help employers better understand how a candidate might perform in various real-life scenarios. Concise letters are best. In most cases, personal references should not exceed one page.
The letter is too short An appropriate letter of recommendation should be around a page long which mean around 500 to 600 words when written on an A4 page. Sometimes, Universities may specify the number of words which makes it easier.
Then they should explain how they know you and for how long. The reference should then elaborate about your relevant skills perhaps in communication, aptitude, responsibility and general personality. It could also briefly suggest why these qualities would be valuable to their business.
The letter should be about one page in length, and generally consist of three parts: the opening, the body, and the closing. The writer should explain the relationship between himself/herself and the candidate as well as why the letter is being written.
