amp;gt;amp;gt; RUBY: Sorry about all this. My name is Sam Ruby. IBM, Emerging Technology, Co-chair of W3C HTML working group and I work from the FeedValidator, and thatamp;#39;s--thatamp;#39;s a bit relevant to some of the topics Iamp;#39;m bringing up. I share a lot of Bradamp;#39;s perspectives and actually, youamp;#39;ll see--weamp;#39;ll actually share some tapes and music, and not music, and movies. All these slides will be up on the Web. You can see the link here but it will be up for everybody to get to, and thereamp;#39;ll be links. I also have a Weblog. The Weblog has a fair amount of SVG, every single one of my--okay. Every single one of my entries has got an SVG element. Iamp;#39;ve done that for now for like several years. Most of them are completely handcrafted. I was going to demo that, though I canamp;#39;t--for technical reasons that are preventing me from actually demoing the editing MBI, which is just as exciting as it sounds. Solution # 1: Truncate text for single line Sometimes, we want our text to be on a straight line. We can achieve it by setting a white-space property to the value nowrap. This solution works for single-line truncation.
The CSS property you use for text truncation is text-overflow . To enable text truncation, you need to set the text-overflow property to ellipsis and the white-space property to nowrap to prevent the text from wrapping to the next line.
This is created using two span elements. The idea is to create a span element with 50% height and then expand its text to full height using pseudo-elements. overflow:hidden hides the overflowing part of the text.
One way to accomplish this is by setting the overflow property of the to hidden . This will hide any content that exceeds the dimensions of the , preventing it from being displayed outside. Make sure to replace div with the actual class or ID of your element.
Using word-break property It prevents text overflow and maintains a clean layout by using the word-break: break-all property to ensure that even big words or character strings within the text will be broken.
amp; for (the ampersand itself) copy; for (the copyright symbol)
The word-wrap property is now treated by browsers as an alias of the standard property. An alternative property to try is word-break . This property will break the word at the point it overflows. It will cause a break-even if placing the word onto a new line would allow it to display without breaking.
