itamp;#39;s a common theme throughout the modern world that everything in a computeramp;#39;s brain comes down to ones and zeros youamp;#39;ve most likely heard that this code of ones and zeros is whatamp;#39;s referred to as binary and while almost everybody knows that this is somehow related to what computers do very few of us seem to understand what binary is or why computers use it if you want to know then this video is for you because itamp;#39;s actually a very simple concept and still quite fascinating before we get to computers letamp;#39;s talk about what binary itself is as it existed long before computers did binary is nothing more than a system of counting to understand how it works letamp;#39;s look at two other systems of counting cally marks and the glourious based and positional that we all know and love today tally marks are the simplest counting system imaginable however many things you have you put down that mini marks easy as pie but not very efficient meanwh

In terms of power, symbols such as eagles, fists, hammers, even wheat have all been used to represent strength and leadership.
As technology became more ubiquitous, these English words were replaced with the symbols line | for on and circle ◯ for off (typically without serifs) to bypass language barriers. This standard is still used on toggle power switches, sometimes in the format I/O.
We know theres only two binary values, 0 and 1, but a system designer can designate either to represent on, and the other for off. I have worked with systems that do it both ways. However, the generally accepted convention is to use 0 to represent off, and 1 to represent on.
On/Off Power Button Symbols (I O) Power buttons and switches are usually labeled with I and O symbols. This designation will sometimes be I/O or the I and O characters on top of each other as a single character, as in this photo. The I represents power on, and the O represents power off.
The I and 0 are based on the binary system, with I as the number one and 0 as zero. Pushing the side of the button with I will turn your device on. Conversely,0 means off. An easy way to differentiate is to think of the 0 as allowing your electronics to do zero functions, therefore, turned off.
On/Off Markings To meet the standard IEC 60417, the symbol for ON is I (a straight line) and the symbol for OFF is O (a circle).
A control is defined as an on-off switch when its function is to open or close an electrical circuit in a stable manner. If the closing or opening occurs in a non-stable or momentary manner, we are talking about a momentary on-off switch or push-button on-off switch, more briefly called on-off push-button.
