You can remove solid deck stains using a deck stain stripper and a power washer. First, apply a coat of the stain stripper to the solid stained deck boards. Allow it to soften for about 15- 30 minutes. Next, use a pressure washer of 600-1200 psi to wash away the loose solid stains from your deck.
Start with an alkyd oil-based primer. Finish with two coats of high-quality acrylic latex top coat paint. Be sure to prime any cut ends. Follow manufacturers recommendations for application.
Therefore, all drilled holes and cut ends need to be treated with a preservative, such as copper naphthenate (for exterior use) or oxine copper (for above ground use) or boron-based preservative (for interior use).
If a treated component does need to be cross-cut to size, bored, drilled or notched, any new exposed surfaces should be given two liberal brush coats of a suitable end grain wood preservative to preserve the integrity of the original treatment.
Cut-N-Treat Wood Preservative is for cuts, holes and injuries to pressure treated wood used in above ground applications. Cut-N-Treat Wood Preservative is ready to use and is not to be used in preserved wood foundations, to recoat pressure treated wood surfaces, or as a replacement for pressure treatment.
To get rid of the excess stain now, take a cloth dampened with mineral spirits and use that to scrub down the piece. This should remove the excess stain. Alternatively, apply another coat of stain, wait a couple of minutes for it to soften up the old, tacky, excess stain, then take a cloth and rub away the excess.
Treat your End Cuts! As with many other building materials, when you work with Pressure Treated Lumber, standard length fence boards, deck planks, posts or timbers often need precision trimming before they can be fastened* in place.
After application, we recommended wiping the entire surface that Ready Seal was applied to, with a clean rag dampened with Mineral Spirits to remove oil residue. It is recommended that any interior surface sealed with Ready Seal be top coated with a clear varnish or polyurethane film-forming coating.
