so these are different types of zip ties we have the black one the two blue ones the green the red and the white all of them except for the white rely on a tongue and groove mechanism so these are the grooves theyamp;#39;re also referred to as teeth and right here is the tongue which sometimes is called the pole p-a-w-l so the way this works when you insert one end into the pull mechanism you could hear the tongue is locking on the grooves and then you canamp;#39;t open it however this has only one tongue this has two tongues this one has two staggered tongues very interesting design and this one has a tongue system inside this cavity and itamp;#39;s all protected now the white one is a different system the white one works where a set of blades inside lock on the string portion so letamp;#39;s go back to the black one so whatamp;#39;s not so good about this one is security it is very easy to defeat and and reopen all you have to do is insert a toothpick uh under the um the tongue

You can shorten separating zippers, but you shorten them from the top and not the bottom just the opposite of shortening a nylon zipper. Then for zippers with metal teeth, they are more difficult to shorten because you actually have to remove zipper teeth. But, we will cover both of these in a separate tutorial.
Remove top stop Unzip the jacket fully, and remove the top stop only on the side of the zipper that has the slider on it. If you have a plastic top stop, use the flush cutters to clip off, otherwise, use the needle nose pliers to gently remove a metal top stop. Leave the teeth and surrounding fabric intact.

Shortening Open-End Zippers The most important difference when shortening a separating zipper, is that they must be shortened from the top. The bottom of Open-End zippers has a special Stop that is called a Retaining Box.
