SDQ total scores of 17 and above are considered to be abnormal. Raw scores are used in the analyses reported here. Clinical cut-off raw scores for the subscales (out of a possible 10) are: Emotion 5, Conduct 4, Hyperactivity 7, Peer Problems 4, Prosocial Behavior 4.
STEP ONE: Calculate total scores for each area. Add up the responses to the six questions in each area to calculate a score for each area. Scores for each area should fall between 0 and 60. STEP TWO: Compare calculated scores to cutoffs on the scoring sheet. In the ASQ-3, higher scores indicate more positive outcomes.
Items are answered on a 5-point Likert scale and summed to provide a total score (range 20-100). The general cut-off score is suggested to be 35 for the SDQ-20 (Nijenhuis, 2010) .
The total difficulties score a child receives can range from 0 to 40, with a higher score indicating more difficulties. Traditionally a three-band categorisation has been used whereby if an individual has a score between 0-13, they are deemed normal; 14-16 they are borderline; and 17-40, they are abnormal.
