Diesel engine exhaust gases vary with speed and load. High loads and high speeds result in the highest temperatures. Generally, temperatures of 500–700°C (932–1293°F) are produced in the exhaust gases from diesel-cycle engines at 100% load to 200–300°C (392–572°F) with no load.
Therefore, the exhaust gas temperature should be controlled below 135℃. If the exhaust gas temperature is too high, the lubricating oil may be carbonized and deteriorated and the lubricating performance will be reduced.
Best DPI setting You do want to avoid playing at too high of a DPI, anything past 12000 is likely excessive, but more importantly, some sensors at this DPI accelerate and emulate the dots per inch, causing inconsistencies, it's not a true raw DPI.
EGT Redline. The “EGT redline” is defined as the engine operational limit that prevents damage to the engine due to an excessively high temperature. EGT limits for each flight phase are provided in the “AFM - LIMITATIONS - POWER PLANT - Engine Parameters" and "FCOM - Limitation - Engines - Thrust Setting/EGT Limits”.
How Hot Is Too Hot? Based on our own experience in the sled pulling and drag racing world, we can definitely say that any engine running at 1,800 to 2,000 degrees EGT for more than a second or two should be rebuilt every season and may incur turbocharger, cylinder head, or piston damage during the season.
Then, if that is Ok, high EGT is due to high fuel flow. As an engine gets older the fuel flow and EGT will increase as the compressors and turbines get worn and have to work harder to do the job.
Excessive EGT can also erode or crack the turbine housing. In extreme cases, high EGT can drive the turbocharger into an overspeed condition that exceeds the designed operating speed due to the additional heat energy. When this happens, either the turbine wheel or the compressor wheel may burst.
In a turbine engine, Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT), sometimes referred to as Turbine Outlet Temperature (TOT), is the temperature of the turbine exhaust gases as they leave the turbine unit.
Commonly, diesel performance enthusiasts will ask: “What's a safe EGT?” The short answer is anything sustained below 1350 degrees Fahrenheit is acceptable by most OEM standards so long as your other engine temperatures remain within safe boundaries.
