On most wireless routers, WPS is enabled by default. The intent is to make it easy for users to set up their network and add all their devices to their Wi-Fi. Therefore, after you set up your network and add the devices you want on your Wi-Fi, if security is a concern, it is a good idea to disable WPS on your router.
By dialing *272 on your WPS enabled device, your call receives a calling queue priority over regular calls, thereby greatly increasing the probability that your cellular call will get through the network, even with congestion.
Wireless Priority Service (WPS) WPS provides authorized devices with priority calling on all nationwide and several regional cellular networks. WPS calls do not preempt calls in progress or deny the general public's use of the telephone network.
Note: To check if your router is WPS-enabled, look for a button labeled WPS on your router or access point. If there is no hardware button, there may be a virtual WPS button in the software for the device.
Assurance Wireless is a federal Lifeline Assistance program. Lifeline is a government assistance program.
Once disabled, you'll need to use the conventional password method to add additional devices to your wi-fi network (less convenient) but your router will no longer be vulnerable to a WPS attack (more secure).
Push the WPS button on the router. The button will typically begin to flash amber/orange, letting you know it is searching for a device to connect. 2. In the device's WiFi settings, locate and select the name of the wireless network (SSID) you're trying to connect to.
The WPS light will continue to flash and the router search for devices for up to 2 minutes. If it doesn't connect successfully in that time, it will usually reset and you will need to press it again to try a new connection.
WPS users receive priority call treatment by dialing *272 and then the destination number. To make a WPS call, the user must first have the WPS feature added to their cellular service. WPS calls can be made to other cell phones, landline phones, and satellite phones.
Users receive an access card (GETS card), which has both the universal GETS access number and a Personal Identification Number (PIN). To get priority access over cellular communications networks, you need to use the Wireless Priority Service (WPS) program. GETS and WPS can be used in combination.
