Thereamp;#39;s a new ability in Pages 6.1 to export documents in RTF format. So what is RTF? Itamp;#39;s a rich text format. A word processing format thatamp;#39;s been around since the eighties. Unlike things like plain text it can actually remember fonts, bolding, it can even have embedded images in there. So letamp;#39;s, for instance, export this out as RTF. Iamp;#39;ll save it here at the desktop and itamp;#39;s going to put an extension of RTFD, D for document, and there it is. So now I can double click on it and itamp;#39;s going to open up in TextEdit because RTF is actually the native format for editing documents in TextEdit. You can edit in plain text and I can convert this to plain text here in the Format menu, but the rich text format is actually RTF. RTF stands for Rich Text Format and is a universal document file format and is easily read by many of the word-processing packages.
Creating an RTF template file consists of two basic steps: Design your template layout. Use the formatting features of your word processing application and save the file as RTF. Mark up your template layout. Insert the BI Publisher simplified tags.
On Windows, save a document as an RTF file by navigating to File Save as and then select RTF. Once youve opened your RTF file on Microsoft Word, select the text you would like to edit. Start typing in this space to replace the current text with the new text.

RTF SYNTAX. An RTF file consists of unformatted text, control words, control symbols, and groups. For ease of transport, a standard RTF file can consist of only 7-bit ASCII characters.
An RTF command consists of a backslash, then some characters a-z, and then an optional positive or negative integer argument. The command is then terminated either by a space, return, or linefeed (all of which are ignored), or by some character (like brace or backslash, etc.)
