What is a protected area? Area delimited by a set of margins around a logo that must always be respected, and remain free of intrusion from other graphic elements to ensure their legibility.
Free from all other graphic elements gives it maximum clarity. This gray area is known as the exclusion zone. For the vertical primary logo, the exclusion zone has been calculated by simply using the proportional size of the brand symbol and placing it around each side of the logo.
Exclusion zones exist to enable high risk work to take place. A common example is mobile plant equipment, such as forklifts or excavators. Exclusion zones are also required for trenches 1.5 metres or deeper.
To protect the clarity of the logo and ensure it has as much impact as possible, it should be surrounded by an area of space known as the exclusion zone.

Safe margin is an industry term that refers to the section 1/8 (0.125) between the center of your label and the label outline. This safe zone is a buffer that ensures the critical elements of your design are included on your printed label, even if printer shifting occurs.
When placing the wordmark and formal logo, be sure that other text and graphics do not encroach on it. When visual elements are too close to the wordmark, it can take away the page hierarchy or create brand confusion. For this reason, an exclusion zone, or area around the wordmark, provides helpful guidance.
The logo design is inspired by Oklahomas heritage. The shapes and colors reflect the earth, sky, water, agriculture and forest. A white star in the middle of the brand is a powerful symbol of America and on the original flag of the state. The chevrons outlining the star acknowledge Oklahomas military.
