hi everyone Connor McDonald here from the ask tom team welcome to another episode of ask Tom TV in this weeks episode well look at applying a unique constraint but not across an entire table but just a portion of the rows in that table and how wed go about doing that so lets look at an example of what our original question from ask Tom was about lets say we had a table of someones salaries so we have someones name their salary and what we call the status of that salary its will become apparent very shortly I put some rows in theres Jones his salary is $500 and that status is active similarly would Smith Haynes all have salaries as you can see there now lets say I want to change Joness salary hes got a promotion and his salaries about to go up a bit I dont want to lose the track of the fact that his salary was once $500 so what Im going to do is set the status to null for the current value of Jonahs salary and then insert a new row so we now have recorded the history of
