With that in mind, heres how to stop WordPress from compressing and cropping images in three simple steps. Step 1: Open the functions. php File. Step 2: Modify the Return Value to 100. After you locate and open the functions. Step 3: Save Your Changes. Once youre done, save your changes.
Adjust image sizes in the Settings Media screen Here you can change width and height for the thumbnail, medium, and large image sizes. WordPress will then automatically create scaled versions of each image using these sizes. You can choose which size you want to insert from the WordPress editor.
The object-fit CSS property can be used to easily crop images. It can have five values, but cover is the most suitable. By setting object-fit: cover; , the aspect ratio of the image is preserved while still fitting into the size of its content box.
Wrap the image in a div The markup to set up CSS-only cropping is super basic. All you need to do is wrap the img tag in a div . The pug image is 750 pixels wide and 500 pixels high. Lets make it portrait-oriented by maintaining the 500 pixel height, but chopping the width in half to 375 pixels.
Using width, height and overflow to crop images in CSS Add a div can give it class container. Set width and height to 150px then set the overflow to hidden. Use margin to position the image based on your needs. In this case, set it to -100px 0 0 -150px.
Different ways to crop your image The tag with object-fit and object-position. The background-image property with background-size and background-position. Image or background image with persistent ratio. Round cropping using border-radius. Complex paths of cropping with clip-path.
Using CSS, you can set the background-size property for the image to fit the screen (viewport). The background-size property has a value of cover . It instructs browsers to automatically scale the width and height of a responsive background image to be the same or bigger than the viewport.
One way to do it is to set the image you want to display as a background in a container (td, div, span etc) and then adjust background-position to get the sprite you want. Just to clarify, youd set the width and height of the container td, div, span or whatever to 50px to make this work.
Changing WordPress Default Image sizes Go to your WordPress Admin Dashboard. Click on Settings Media. In the Media Settings, adjust the default image settings to fit your preferences. Click Save Changes to confirm.
