It seems like such a simple step, but a little extra focus on how you crop can push your photography skills to the next level. As you can see in the example below, the photo is much more balanced and appealing in the image to the left. Cropping off hands or feet can be distracting and ruin an otherwise good image.
Feet pics have gained popularity on social media, with individuals buying and selling them. Feet pics appeal to our desire for individuality and self-expression. They stimulate pleasure and reward regions in the brain. Social media platforms have played a docHub role in fueling the popularity of feet pics.
If it can bend, dont crop it. If it cant bend, cropping is (often) fine. So the knees should not be cropped, but cropping mid-thigh works just fine (see the two images below). The elbows should not be cropped, but cropping just above the elbows looks nice.
Thirdly, crop above or below your subjects joints, never through them: a frame cutting into an ankle, knee or elbow doesnt work. Lastly, watch out for body elements near the edge of the frame. Either crop confidently, or not at all. A slither of a head or foot sliced off looks accidental.
Be mindful of fingers (and toes!) Weve all done it. Avoid cropping at the hips. Knowing where to crop an image is especially important for creating flattering portraits. Foreheads and hairlines. Cropping just below the hairline has the tendency to make foreheads look larger than they are. Keep joints intact. All ears.
A cutout is simply a photo with the background removed just like when you were a kid making collages with scissors, glue, and old magazines.
