Failure to File Biennial Paperwork Not submitting an update before the deadline will deactivate your U.S. DOT number and incur fines of up to $1,000 a day. The FMCSA requires motor carriers to update their business information every two years or sooner if changes occur.
To fill out your DOT number application, you will need your Employer Identification Number or Social Security Number, your Dun Bradstreet Number, and the names and titles of all of your company officers.
In order to make changes to your EIN or SSN fields, a signed MCS-150 form will have to be submitted to the FMCSA and they will process this change for you.
The process will take at least 2-3 weeks in order to cancel out your USDOT Number. USDOT Numbers that are not deactivated are still subject to federal mandates and you may be penalized for noncompliances. When you deactivate your Motor Carrier, you are released from complying with regulations.
If you do not need your USDOT Number or MC Number any longer you can request to cancel them both out. The process will take at least 2-3 weeks in order to cancel out your USDOT Number. USDOT Numbers that are not deactivated are still subject to federal mandates and you may be penalized for noncompliances.
