To remove the last character from a string in Bash, follow the below method: Using the cut command: echo $originalstring | cut -c -n (n=total number of characters excluding the last character)
How do you write a cutaway in a screenplay? You write a cutaway in a script by writing CUT TO: on the right-hand side of a screenplay. Then when finished, write BACK TO: also on the right side to return to the scene.
Em dashes (not to be confused with hyphens or ellipses) are used to indicate that a speaker has been interrupted mid-sentence by another character. The em dash should be placed directly after the final word the speaker gets out before being interrupted (with no extra space) and inside the closing quotation mark.
We use CUT TO: when we want to make a point of ending the scene where we did. For example, if you end a scene on a character telling his wife that hes sorry for cheating on her and it will never happen again, and the beginning of the next scene is him in bed with another woman, adding CUT TO: makes sense.
As with all formatting advice, the idea is to clearly express your vision without interrupting the flow of the screenplay. One easy way to show one character interrupting another is to use double-dashes or an ellipsis to indicate the first characters dialogue is being interrupted.
If the dialogue sentence is cut off, perhaps by someone or something interrupting, I use an em-dash, usually 2 hyphens typed one immediately after each other, with no space between the last word and the first of the two hyphens.
