Select your text and then click Font on the Format menu. On the Font tab, do one or both of the following: Change the Font setting to a different font. Change the Size setting to a smaller size than what you have your line spacing set to.
If the paragraph line spacing in Word is set to Exactly some value, and if that value is too small to enclose the equation, this causes Word to place the equation behind lines of text, thus obscuring parts of the equation.
Heres how to insert an equation in Word manually: Open your document and click the insertion point for the equation. Click on the Insert tab. Go to the Symbols group and click Equations. Open the Design tab to create your equation. Use your keyboard to type standard letters and symbols like +, = and .

Do one or both of the following: On the Indents and Spacing tab, change the Line spacing box to something other than Exactly. For example, change the Line spacing setting to Single. Change the At setting to a setting slightly larger than the font point size you are using in your document.
