The answer is simple - you don't. Page numbers in e-books can and will end up looking a mess. Readers are using different devices with different screen sizes and are changing their viewing size to suit themselves. Page numbers will only get in the way and turn up half way down the page or worse.
EPUB is an open-standard file format for digital books developed by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF).
You can check the top and bottom of each page as you read to see the page numbers if available. If no page numbers are listed on the pages themselves, you can check the table of contents to see the page number associated with the beginning of each chapter.
Since ePUB files are supported by majority of the eBook readers, it gives the authors and publishers a chance to expand their reader base. PDF files can be read on almost all devices, but you cannot read them on all eReaders. They are not designed to be displayed on an eBook reader.
Step 1: Choose the PDF file you wish to convert. Step 2: Select the PDF file, then select Convert books. Step 3: Select the Output format drop-down menu and choose ePUB. Step 4: Edit the title, author, tags, and other metadata fields, then select OK.
Visit an ePub-to-PDF converter website. Upload the ePub file you want to convert. Click Convert. Download the new file.
There are a number of EPUB editors that can open, edit and save edits such as Sigil, Calibre, Oxygen, Scrivener, Jutoh and Blue Griffon.
eBooks do not have page numbers because they are reflowable documents designed to flow over various different screen sizes. An eBook is basically just one long webpage that is broken up in smaller "pages" by the eReading device or software.
Editing an EPUB. An EPUB is essentially a ZIP file containing nested folders with XHTML text, images, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), embedded fonts, and metadata files. Almost anyone can edit EPUB files with the help of an eBook editing tool, although some familiarity with hypertext markup language (HTML) is helpful.
In fact, an eBook's “pages” are actually an illusion, created by the device. In reality, an eBook is one very long webpage (or a series of very long webpages), and the view of the “pages” changes as each device opens it, and as each human reader chooses his font size and, in some instances, the font.
