all right well the US added 303,000 jobs in the month of March well that was well above the Streets expectations now City saying in a recent note that they expected the job market to weaken with just 150,000 jobs added in March leading to 125 basis points of cuts this year almost double what the market is currently pricing in so where do things stand following this higher than expected uh jobs print that we got out this morning we want to bring in one of the economists behind that call you have Andrew Hollen horse hes a city a chief us Economist Andrew its great to see you here so first just your reaction to the print that we got out this morning and whether or not that changes your base case for the fed and the degree of the cuts that you are expecting this year yeah this was a much stronger than expected jobs report like you said stronger than our forecast stronger than consensus forecast I dont know that it changes that much for the FED at the end of the day um or that we should

The monthly jobs report from the U.S. Department of Labor provides a useful snapshot of how many jobs the economy created the previous month, how many people were unemployed, and what kind of wage hikes workers received.
The sturdy labor market continued to chug along in March, with an unemployment rate of 3.8%, marking the 26th straight month of an unemployment rate under 4%. The economy added 303,00 jobs, ing to the monthly report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday.
The U.S. economy lost 23 million jobs at the start of the pandemic, leading to a recession in early 2020. The federal government responded with sharp increases in fiscal spending, and the Federal Reserve lowered interest rates to near zero and kept them there for almost 2 years.
This report shows the following: The unemployment rate peaked at an unprecedented level, not seen since data collection started in 1948, in April 2020 (14.8%) before declining to a still- elevated level in February 2021 (6.2%) relative to February 2020 (3.5%).
What are the Effects of Unemployment on Our Society? The effects on society include a strain on public finances, reduced consumer spending, increased dependence on social welfare programs, reduced social cohesion, and a potential increase in social unrest and crime.
While the job losses were widespread, they were greatest in industries that involve people (employees, customers, or both) coming in close contact. The leisure and hospitality industry suffered the greatest job losses, but every major industry lost jobs over the year. (See charts 2 and 3.)
The recession induced by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic resulted in steep job losses, pushed the unemployment rate to a high of 13.0 percent in the second quarter of 2020, and caused many people to leave the labor force.
