um so intermediate sedation is is not the same as general anesthesia shes still going to go to sleep for this though but the difference is that if i needed to do something like that i could talk to her i could say open your mouth and shell do that but 10 seconds afterwards she wont remember because the medication causes amnesia especially the benzodiazepines theyre very good for that so she wont remember a thing and the other part about the anesthesia im going to do local anesthetic as well so shes going to be very numb im going to use marcaine which is long acting with the iv it usually lasts about 10 hours on average so this whole section here about 10 hours be completely comfortable after nothing wears off it is going to be sore but you know that right theres usually some pain theres some swelling and theres some bleeding thats normal afterwards and we manage that with medication and just kind of taking it easy today tomorrow shell be better and it just gets better eve

Bathing some animals may be necessary to remove excess dirt and hair and is best done the day before the scheduled surgery. On the day of surgery, the surgeon and assistants should wash their hands. It is advisable to wear clean, non-sterile gloves at all times the animal is being handled.
If your pet eats or drinks right before surgery, make sure you tell your veterinarian. Eating or drinking prior to the surgery doesnt necessarily mean the operation will be delayed, it just warns your vet that if your pet becomes nauseous when the anesthetic is given, he needs to watch for vomiting.
This could mean separating your dog from other pets, getting his crate set up, and making sure any medications and food required to meet special dietary needs are packed and ready to go to the veterinarian with him. You might also want to wash your dogs bedding to help lower the risk of infection.
Prior to receiving anesthesia, your veterinarian will perform a thorough physical exam on your pet, review your pets medical history and discuss any risk factors. Your veterinarian may also perform blood tests on your pet to check for any indications of a developing medical problem or anesthetic risk.
Now, guidelines are aimed towards 6-8 hours before surgery. This pre-op fasting time is much more beneficial for your pets because you have enough food in there to neutralize the stomach acid, preventing it from coming up the esophagus that causes regurgitation under anesthetic.
FAQ: Why cant my pet eat prior to their procedure? Your pets stomach needs to be empty before anesthesia. Thats because anesthetic drugs can cause vomiting in some pets, and that can lead to aspiration pneumonia.
Pets need to fast before surgery to prevent vomiting and aspiration during anaesthesia, which is fatal. Even eating or drinking small amounts during the fasting period can be dangerous, so its essential your pet doesnt eat or drink before their surgery.
Some pets may have a light bandage applied over their surgical wound after surgery, and this is usually removed at home about 24-48 hours after the surgery.
