A dieline is the art file that shows where cuts, perforations and folds need to be made. This dieline is a vector object that should be delivered to your printer in your art files. This design will be used to create the metal plate, called a die, that acts like a cookie cutter to shape a printed piece.
Crop marks, also known as trim marks, are lines printed in the corners of your publications sheet or sheets of paper to show the printer where to trim the paper. They are used by commercial printers for creating bleeds where an image or color on the page needs to extend all the way to the edge of the paper.
Trim marks can be added to Word by following these steps: Select File Options. Select Advanced in the navigation pane on the left. Scroll down to the section Show document content. Tick the checkbox Show crop marks. Click OK.
Click File Print, click the menu to select a printer, and then click Advanced Output Settings. On the Marks and Bleeds tab, under Printers marks, select the Crop marks check box. Under Bleeds, select both Allow bleeds and Bleed marks. Print your publication.
Under Printer, click the arrow next to the printer, and click Advanced Output Settings. On the Marks and Bleeds tab, under Printers marks, select the Crop marks box, and click OK. Make sure the crop marks are where you want them, and click Print.
