Bleeds: Artwork extends to the red dotted line for proper bleed. Safety: Text is inside the blue dotted line to prevent information from getting cut off. Bleeds are required in all artwork with an image extending to one of the borders. Add an eighth of an inch (0.125) to each side to allow for cutting.
Bleed The bleed is the area that all artwork must extend to in order to ensure there are no blank (or white) spaces left over after cutting the business card. Cut Line The cut line (aka trim line) is the line where the business card printer targets the cut.
The trim line is the line where the page will be cut, indicated by crop marks in the corners. Crop marks should end 2mm away from the trim line to ensure they do not appear on completed print jobs.
They are two small lines, one vertical and one horizontal, at each corner of the file. They are not visible when you are designing your printing file, but if you add them, they appear when you save the file as a PDF.
Cut Line The cut line (aka trim line) is the line where the business card printer targets the cut. Safety Line The safety line is a margin inside from the cut line where all text must be contained.
A bleed refers to the image beyond the final trim that will be cut off after the material has been printed and cut down. Bleeds are an important part of the printing process because even the smallest amount of misregistration or knife draw could leave finished work with white edges.
Crop marks, also known as trim marks, are lines printed in the corners of your publications sheet or sheets of paper to show the printer where to trim the paper. They are used by commercial printers for creating bleeds where an image or color on the page needs to extend all the way to the edge of the paper.
What is bleed? Bleed refers to a background color, graphic, or image that extends to the edge of the finished paper size and beyond. Its difficult for printing equipment to apply ink up to the cut edge of a sheet of paper.
