A work request is submitted by your staff or customers to request that work be performed on an asset. A work order, on the other hand, is an authorization from your maintenance planner to perform maintenance tasks. When work requests are submitted and approved, work orders are created.
Corrective maintenance is performed to identify, isolate, and solve the issue so that the equipment, machine, or system can be restored to its correct condition. Unlike an emergency work order, a corrective maintenance work order is planned and scheduled because the failure was identified in time.
A work order should include a description of the maintenance activities and information such as who requested and approved the work order, the maintenance technician responsible for executing the work and the associated due dates, costs and resources. Work orders can be either executed by an internal maintenance team.
For example, a machine operator might submit a work request when equipment breaks down. The work request is reviewed by a maintenance manager, who adds extra information, schedules the task, and assigns it to a technician. The work request is now a work order.
