The cutting-stock problem is used to minimize the impact of wasting material during the stock cutting process. The linear programming model is developed and implemented on Microsoft Excel to solve for the optimal cutting plan with the criteria of minimizing material waste.
PC: Ctrl + c for Copy, Ctrl + x for Cut, and Ctrl + v for Paste. Mac: ⌘ + c for Copy, ⌘ + x for Cut, and ⌘ + v for Paste.
As the number of orders increases, it may therefore become impractical to enumerate the possible cutting patterns. An alternative approach uses delayed column-generation. This method solves the cutting-stock problem by starting with just a few patterns. It generates additional patterns when they are needed.
A two-dimensional cutting stock problem (2DCSP) needs to cut a set of given rectangular items from standard-sized rectangular materials with the objective of minimizing the number of materials used.
When configuring your cut list, arrange the parts in a sequence that makes sense to you. I list all solid wood parts first, followed by sheet good materials. Each part gets a code (which I write on the boards to identify the parts there), on the cut list noting the quantity of each piece.
Starting from a base set of cutting patterns, solve the linear programming problem of minimizing the number of logs used subject to the constraint that the cuts, using the existing patterns, satisfy the demands. After solving that problem, generate a new pattern by solving an integer linear programming subproblem.
Sheet metal cutting is a general explanation for a number of different operations that involve pressworking. The main purpose of sheet metal cutting is to remove parts of sheet metal material through cutting edges that are applied with high force to the sheet metal in question.
The Classical 1-D Cutting Stock Problem The 1D-CSP is a linear integer programming problem with one decision variable for each possible pattern. If the number of order widths is small, then the number of patterns may be small enough that the problem can be solved using a standard algorithm.
