The cardiac index (CI) is an assessment of the cardiac output value based on the patients size. To find the cardiac index, divide the cardiac output by the persons body surface area (BSA). The normal range for CI is 2.5 to 4 L/min/m2.
Ejection fraction is measured as a percentage of the total amount of blood in your heart that is pumped out with each heartbeat. A normal ejection fraction is 50 percent or higher. An ejection fraction below 40 percent means your heart isnt pumping enough blood and may be failing.

Heart failure is generally thought to begin after an index event that produces a decline in the pumping capacity of the heart. This event can be sustained pressure or volume overload, an acute myocardial infarction, a genetic abnormality that disrupts contractionit could be any one of a number of things.
Low-flow is conventionally defined as a left ventricular stroke volume index (SVI) of 35 ml/m2 [5].
In terms of cardiac output, a high cardiac output state is defined as a resting cardiac output greater than 8 L/min or a cardiac index of greater than 4.0/min/m2 [1], and heart failure occurs when that cardiac output is insufficient to supply the demand.
The HeartLogic Heart Failure Diagnostic uses multiple sensors to track physiological trends, combines them into one composite index and sends a proactive alert of potential worsening heart failure.
Definition. Having high output heart failure means your heart pumps at least 8 liters per minute (L/min) or you have a cardiac index of 4.0 L/min/m2. Cardiac index is an assessment of how much blood is pumped out in relation to a persons body surface area, which is represented as m2.
