In general terms, Ascending means smallest to largest, 0 to 9, and/or A to Z and Descending means largest to smallest, 9 to 0, and/or Z to A.
ASC | DESC Specifies that the values in the specified column should be sorted in ascending or descending order. ASC sorts from the lowest value to highest value. DESC sorts from highest value to lowest value. ASC is the default sort order.
If you want to sort some of the data in ascending order and other data in descending order, then you would have to use the ASC and DESC keywords. SELECT * FROM table ORDER BY column1 ASC, column2 DESC; That is how to use the ORDER BY clause in SQL to sort data in ascending order.
Descending Order Meaning If the information is sorted from highest to lowest, it is said to be in descending order. For example 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 are arranged in descending order.

You can use the ASC and DESC keywords to specify ascending (smallest value first) or descending (largest value first) order. The default order is ascending. For DATE and DATETIME data types, smallest means earliest in time and largest means latest in time.
You can use the asc (ascending) and desc (descending) keywords to assign a sort order to each column in an index. By default, sort order is ascending. Creating indexes so that columns are in the same order specified in the order by clauses of queries eliminates sorting the columns during query processing.
