Use a standard font, such as Times New Roman or Arial, in a legible size (10- to 12-point). Use continuous pagination throughout the paper, including the title page and the references section.
First and foremost, your proposal needs to be readable. Avoid using cursive or hard-to-read fonts, too much color, underlining of non-links, small spacing, or other distractions. While few donors have strict guidelines on formatting, 12 pt. font in Arial or Times New Roman with 1.5 spacing is fairly standard.
Students should use the same font size (11- or 12-point) and style (typically Times New Roman) through the thesis, including labels and references. Tables, captions, and footnotes should use the same font style but may be smaller in size (usually 10-point).
The serif font group includes Times New Roman, Garamond, and MS Serif (Lee, 2013). For this reason, most professors choose to have students write their papers in Times New Roman, a rule that has sound APA support.
When not specified, its best to stick with a standard font that everyone is familiar with so its easy to read. The most common proposal fonts are Arial (or some variation, such as Arial Narrow) or Times New Roman.
You will need to submit a research proposal with your PhD application. This is crucial in the assessment of your application and it warrants plenty of time and energy. Your research proposal should be no more than 1500 words, Times New Roman, Font 12 (exclusive of references).
