Reversed type refers to text that has a light color on a darker background. When white text is set on a black background, the text is knocked out and the paper shines through, hence the term knockout text.
In graphic design and printing, a knockout is the process of removing one color ink from below another to create a clearer image or text. When two images overlap the bottom portion or shape is removed or knocked out, so that it doesnt effect the color of the image on top.
When white or light-colored type is set on top of a black or dark-colored background, its said to be reversed-out. The term is derived from graphic design, where the white is usually the part of the paper without ink; the surrounding dark colours are the places where the ink lies.
You can use the Slice tool to cut out a shape from another shape, cut overlapping shapes from one another, or to cut text from a shape. The Slice tool will only be available when exactly two non-hidden layers are selected.
The best fonts for laser cutting are bold, have an even stroke width, and can be cut without losing internal shapes. Some good options for laser cut text are Arial Black, Impact, and Verdana.

Knockout is a family of sans serif typefaces which expands upon Jonathan Hoeflers first typeface, Champion Gothic (1990). Like Champion, Knockout is inspired by a style of American wood type which was first introduced in the mid-nineteenth century, and remains popular to this day.
