time J ask can ACL injuries repair themselves answer is no ACLS cannot repair themselves they do not heal on their own people either can do fine without an ACL because you donamp;#39;t need an ACL to run Straight Ahead or walk or just do kind of normal everyday activity but if you have instability where you play sports do cutting activities or any kind of high intensity things an ACL in my opinion should be fixed with surgery

The short answer is yes. After the pain and swelling subsides and if there is no other injury to your knee, you may be able to walk in straight lines, go up and down stairs and even potentially jog in a straight line. The ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) is an important ligament that provides stability to the knee.
Without surgery, your ACL will remain torn. The knee might healthe swelling and pain will stop. But a torn anterior cruciate ligament does not reattach or heal itself.
Athletes will most commonly use crutches to help walk in the days immediately following your ACL injury. But, typically you can walk with a torn ACL after the first few days upon injury. In fact, one of the goals of pre-operative physical therapy before ACL surgery is to restore your normal walking pattern!
Reduced activities. Without an ACL, the knee is unlikely to support aggressive landing, cutting and pivoting. Living with a torn ACL may mean limiting participation in sports, work and activities that cause the knee to swell, give way or feel unstable.
If youre able to put pressure on your hurt leg, you may notice that its harder than normal to walk. Some people find that the knee joint feels looser than it should. Less range of motion. After you damage your ACL, its very likely that you wont be able to bend and flex your knee like you normally would.
Signs and symptoms of an ACL injury usually include: A loud pop or a popping sensation in the knee. Severe pain and inability to continue activity. Rapid swelling.
How long does it take to recover from a torn ACL? It usually takes six to nine months to recover from a torn ACL. Competitive athletes may need a little longer than this to heal fully before theyre cleared to return to their sport. Your provider will tell you when you can resume physical activities.
The new ACL is harvested from the patellar tendon that connects the bottom of the kneecap (patella) to the top of the shinbone (tibia). The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Your surgeon will make two small cuts about inch around your knee.
