Line 5a is a manual entry, in the middle column area, for your total Pensions and Annuities. Line 5b is a manual entry in the column. It also has an associated dropdown menu to the left of the column. Enter your taxable Pensions and Annuities in the right column (5b).
A deduction is an amount you subtract from your income when you file so you dont pay tax on it. By lowering your income, deductions lower your tax. You need documents to show expenses or losses you want to deduct. Your tax software will calculate deductions for you and enter them in the right forms.
Itemizing requirements In order to claim itemized deductions, you must file your income taxes using Form 1040 and list your itemized deductions on Schedule A: Enter your expenses on the appropriate lines of Schedule A. Add them up. Copy the total amount to the second page of your Form 1040.
