Cut will tell your computer to delete the content from its original location when pasted. Copy will simply copy the information and the original content will be retained when you use Paste. In order to access any of these options you will need to highlight/select something.
The cut command removes the selected data from its original position, while the copy command creates a duplicate; in both cases the selected data is kept in temporary storage (the clipboard). The data from the clipboard is later inserted wherever a paste command is issued.
Cutting Text To cut text and move it to the clipboard, select the text and then do one of the following: Press CTRL+X. Press SHIFT+DELETE.
The only difference between cut+paste and copy+paste is that copy duplicates the file in a new location and stops, cut duplicates the file then deletes the original. This is much faster than copying the entire file. So moving within the same drive letter, copy+paste takes longer than cut+paste.
Its because of the analogy to using scissors to cut out some text to paste it into a new place. Like before there were computers, if you can imagine such a time. If you move text printed on paper somewhere else, it goes missing from its original location.
Try it! Cut. Select Cut. or press Ctrl + X. Paste. Select Paste. or press Ctrl + V. Note: Paste only uses your most recently copied or cut item. Copy. Select Copy. or press Ctrl + C.
Cut: Tap Cut or pinch closed with three fingers two times. Copy: Tap Copy or pinch closed with three fingers. Paste: Tap Paste or pinch open with three fingers.
Video: Cut, copy, and paste Cut. Select Cut. or press Ctrl + X. Paste. Select Paste. or press Ctrl + V. Note: Paste only uses your most recently copied or cut item. Copy. Select Copy. or press Ctrl + C.
