Well, simply put there are rules that must be followed when submitting for a patent on your drawing. But these rules do not specify that you need to use a computer to create a patent drawing. Its up to you how the drawing is created, and many people opt to submit hand-drawn patent applications.
The illustrations for a utility patent must be detailed enough to enable any person skilled in the art to which it pertains, or with which it is most nearly connected, to make and use the claimed invention.
So, while the official patent office line is that seven drawings are typically required for a design patent application (all six sides and a perspective view), its really often the case that eight drawings should be submitted by including two perspective views from opposing sides.
Size of the drawing must be 11inch by 8.5 inches and must be white in color. It must be flexible, plane, non-shiny and free of overwriting, alterations and marks of erasing. A margin of 1 inch at the top and left side, 3/8 inch at the right side and 5/8 inch at the bottom.
Every line, number, and letter must be durable, clean, black (except for color drawings), sufficiently dense and dark, and uniformly thick and well-defined. The weight of all lines and letters must be heavy enough to permit adequate reproduction.
Whereas the claims define the legal scope of protection, the patent specification describes the invention and provides support for the claims. In a utility patent, the specification includes the drawings and the written description excluding the claims.
Its human nature to do so, so dont feel bad. Patent drawings for utility patent applications are the second major way that inventors (and their Patent Attorneys) are able to explain their invention (apart from words), and more particularly, what they are claiming they have invented.
